What If My Host Cancels?
If your host cancels, you receive a full host-cancellation refund. An eligible cancellation less than 24 hours before pickup also opens Trip Rescue.
Prelaunch: Live guest bookings are not open yet. This article describes the host-cancellation and Trip Rescue flow currently configured for launch.
What happens
- 24 hours or more before pickup: the trip is canceled and the host-cancellation refund is issued. Trip Rescue does not automatically open.
- Less than 24 hours before pickup, but before the trip starts: eligible cancellations open Trip Rescue in addition to the host-cancellation refund.
- After the trip starts: the pre-trip Trip Rescue flow does not apply. Use the trip support options for an active-trip problem.
How Trip Rescue works
Trip Rescue searches opted-in, available vehicles that meet the replacement criteria. If a replacement is available, Carvia shows it in the canceled trip:
- Accept the replacement: your protected original trip price carries over, you are not asked to make a new payment, and Carvia adds a $50 travel credit.
- Decline it, or no replacement is available: the original trip receives its full host-cancellation refund and Carvia adds a $100 travel credit.
You do not need to book a different vehicle first and submit it later for reimbursement. Use the replacement shown inside Trip Rescue so the protected price and credit are applied correctly.
What to do
- Open the canceled trip from Trips.
- Review the refund status.
- If the cancellation is eligible, review the Trip Rescue replacement and choose whether to accept it.
- Contact support from the trip if the refund or rescue status looks wrong.
Extenuating circumstances
A host may ask Carvia to review a documented emergency under the Extenuating Circumstances Policy. That review can change consequences for the host; it does not turn the cancellation into a guest-caused cancellation.
