Filing a Damage Claim (Host)

Use Report issue or damage from the trip as soon as you identify a problem. You do not have to wait for the trip to show Completed.

Prelaunch: Live trips and claims are not open yet. This article describes the damage-report flow currently built for launch.

When the report is available

The normal host flow accepts a new damage report:

  • While the vehicle is out on an in-progress trip
  • While the trip is awaiting checkout
  • Through the configured 24-hour deadline after checkout

The trip page calculates eligibility from server time and shows the deadline when one applies. After the window closes, the normal report action is disabled.

Start the report

  1. Open the trip from Host trips.
  2. Select Report issue or damage.
  3. Choose the damage type and cause.
  4. Complete the incident date, affected vehicle areas, driver and third-party details, incident location, and current vehicle condition as prompted.
  5. Add the before-and-after evidence and any supporting documents you have.
  6. Review the full report and submit it.

The form is designed to be completed in one sitting. If the claim saves but an evidence upload fails, use the retry option so the files are attached to the existing claim rather than opening a duplicate.

Evidence to include

  • Relevant check-in photos or another clear before-trip record
  • Wide and close current photos showing the damage
  • A factual description of what changed and how it may have happened
  • Police, tow, repair, or other documents when they exist
  • Any amount already paid, if the form asks for it

The check-in and checkout records, trip messages, submitted evidence, and applicable terms are reviewed together. A visible mark in one photo can indicate pre-existing damage, but the product does not automatically decide the entire claim from one image.

What happens next

The claim workspace shows its current state, requested evidence, and due dates. The current configuration targets an eligibility review within 3 business days and uses a 5-business-day appeal-window target. There is no universal guaranteed final-resolution or payout deadline in the current product.

See Claims SLA: What to Expect for the stages and limits of those targets.

Good-faith reports

An honest report does not create a separate claim-filing fee merely because it is later denied. Submit complete and truthful information; misleading evidence or abusive reporting can result in account action.

Coverage

Eligibility and any host damage responsibility come from the plan snapshot and terms attached to that booking. A plan selection or displayed responsibility amount is not a guarantee of payment. The current disclosure also states that Carvia does not yet have a signed insurance carrier agreement and carrier-backed third-party liability coverage is not active.
