Host Check-Out: How To

Host checkout confirms the returned vehicle's condition and ending readings. Use the app for the full guided inspection or host web for the handoff confirmation.

Prelaunch: Live trips are not open yet. This article describes the host checkout flow currently built for launch.

Review the return promptly

Inspect the vehicle as soon as it is returned. Compare its condition, odometer, and fuel or charge level with the pickup record and the guest's checkout submission.

The checkout action remains available only through the server-enforced window ending 24 hours after the scheduled return time.

In the Carvia app

The app provides the detailed guided return flow:

  • Exterior and interior photo prompts
  • Odometer and fuel or EV charge readings
  • Location capture when available
  • A final return-inspection confirmation

Follow the prompts and get close, clear evidence of any new damage.

On host web

Host web confirms the handoff instead of repeating the mobile photo wizard:

  1. Open the active trip from Host trips.
  2. Review the guest's return record when it exists.
  3. Confirm or enter the odometer, fuel or charge level, and handoff notes.
  4. Submit Confirm check-out.

When a guest record exists, the confirmation uses it. Otherwise, the values you provide are recorded under your signed-in host account.

Report damage in the correct window

You do not have to wait for a trip to display Completed before reporting damage. The current host report flow is available while the trip is in progress or awaiting checkout and remains available for 24 hours after recorded checkout or the scheduled trip end, as applicable.

Open Report issue or damage from the trip and submit the report as soon as you identify the problem. Include clear before-and-after evidence and the requested details. See Filing a Damage Claim (Host).

Submit incidentals separately

Checkout does not automatically bill the guest for fuel, tolls, tickets, or additional distance. Submit each eligible incidental from the trip with the documented amount and required evidence within 72 hours of the recorded checkout or scheduled return, as applicable. EV charging is not currently a supported host incidental type.

Payouts and claims

A clean trip follows the standard payout schedule. If a claim or payment adjustment is opened, the affected amount and status are shown in the trip, claim, or payout record; unrelated earnings continue on their own schedule.
