Guest Check-Out: How To
Check-out records the vehicle's condition, ending mileage, fuel or charge level, and return location before you leave it.
Prelaunch: Live guest trips are not open yet. This article describes the checkout flow currently built for launch.
When to check out
Start checkout when you return the vehicle at the agreed time and location. The server-enforced checkout action window closes 24 hours after the scheduled return time, so do not leave the record unfinished.
On guest web
- Open the active trip and select Check Out.
- Add one clear exterior photo and one dashboard / odometer photo.
- Enter the ending odometer and the fuel percentage or EV charge percentage when it applies.
- Add the parking level, row, or other return detail for a remote drop-off.
- Add notes and submit the check-out. Both private uploads must finish before the return record is created.
The web form uses your device's file picker. It does not currently require live camera capture or add browser geolocation to every image.
In the Carvia app
The app provides a guided exterior, interior, odometer, and fuel or charge inspection. Guest checkout also includes the return-location step. Follow the prompts shown in the app and make sure the photos show the vehicle as you left it.
Host confirmation
The host reviews the return and submits a separate checkout confirmation. On host web, the host can use your handoff record and confirm or add the ending readings and notes. In the app, the host can complete the full guided return inspection.
Keep the key and vehicle secure according to the host's return instructions until the handoff is complete.
Damage and post-trip charges
A host can report new damage during the trip and through the configured 24-hour period after checkout. Check-in and checkout evidence are reviewed together; a claim is not decided automatically from one image.
Distance, fuel, toll, and eligible ticket charges are not generated merely because checkout was submitted. A host must submit a supported incidental with the amount and evidence within the allowed post-trip window.
If you notice an issue
Document it in checkout, message the host through Inbox, and keep any relevant photos or receipts. If you disagree with a later claim or incidental, respond from the trip or claim workspace so your evidence stays attached to the correct record.
